"Making The Case For Change...Engaging The Community To End Poverty"

Throughout the warm summer months, members of the Retired & Senior Volunteer Program of
Southwestern CT were already thinking of winter.
Now that cold weather is here, clientele of many local agencies are reaping the benefits of the
seniors' wisdom. Thanks to the many senior volunteers who knit throughout the year, more than
500 children from the NEON Child Development Program receive hats, mittens and scarves to keep
them warm. RSVP also donates these items, along with blankets and quilts to Norwalk Housing
Authority, Family & Children's Agency, NEON's halfway houses, Domestic Violence Crisis Center
and others.
This is one of many services provided in the community by RSVP. These volunteers, who are age
55 and older, also read to young children, tutor older students, help at Red Cross Blood Drives,
provide programs to senior citizens, assist with special events and more.
RSVP assists older adults in putting their experience and skills to good use by helping out in an
area which interests them. Volunteering helps to keep them active and healthy, while giving them
much satisfaction.
This time of year, the community offers a special thanks to the knitters of RSVP. Their volunteer
work throughout the year benefits many in the community. Donations of yarn are badly needed and
gladly accepted at any time of year.
